Horton Tower
Horton Tower

There is little written history about Horton Tower. It was built by Humphry Sturt and general consenus is that it was built as a folly or an observation tower. An estate agent once told me it was built by the local squire to enable him to keep an eye on his young wife when he became to old to accompany the Hunt. I'm sure it helped to sell a few properties! It was used in the film Far From The Madding Crowd for the cock fighting scene and is now put to good use as a transmitting building for Vodafone with well disguised aerials situated around the top of the building..
