DORSET PICTURES has been created by Roger Holman, an award winning Dorset based landscape photographer.
Roger Holman is a long standing, founder member of Wimborne Camera Club and has been photographing his home county of Dorset for many years.
He has also been a producer of audio-visual programmes and has given many illustrated talks and audio-visual presentations throughout the county. Together with his long term photography colleague Roger Lane he co-produced a number of memorable audio-visual sequences such as 'The Changing Face of Wimborne' which supported many charities in his home town of Wimborne Minster, among them being the Priest House Museum,Tivoli Cinema and The Model Town.
In 1967 he co-organised Photography Teach-Ins at Avon Tyrell in the New Forest with the late Ian Bigg and was later joined by Roger Lane and other members of Wimborne Camera Club in producing further Photo Teach-Ins.
Following the success of such audio-visual features as 'Hardy's Dorset', made for the Thomas Hardy Festival in Dorchester in 1968 and later 'The Isle of Purbeck', COLOURSOUND was formed as an audio-visual group, touring the county providing shows to a number of communities and supporting various charities. Avon Tyrell was also the venue for COLOURSOUND Audio-Visual Festivals which ran in conjunction with the Royal Photographic Society and the then president Sir George Pollock. These events were a milestone in the photography calendar bringing enthusiasts together from the UK and Europe.
In 1990 Roger Holman submitted an early morning photograph of Fiddleford Mill which won the Best of Britain Award in a major photographic competition judged by royal photographer Lord Lichfield and film producer David Puttnam.
In 1991, together with associate photographer Roger Lane and local writer Roger Guttridge, they produced their first book 'The Landscapes of Dorset', followed in 1993 by 'The Villages of Dorset'.
